Happy National Day of Prayer!
National Day of Prayer has been every first Thursday of May since 1952. The theme for this year, according to the nationaldayofprayer.org, is “Pray for America – Unity” based on the verse “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).
I think this is the perfect theme. With everything that has been going on in America, and with all the divisions, united is the one thing that America needs to become again. It needs to stop being about skin color, economic standings, or political views, and be more about coming together as one under one name: American, because that is what we all are.
We all live in this country.
We all enjoy the freedoms this country has fought for us to have.
And we all can come together.
It’s important more now than ever.
Prayer is important to the walk of a Christian. Prayer is something I knew was important but now value even more. I realize the power prayer truly has, and the intimacy that is creates with the Heavenly Father by constantly talking to Him.
Prayer can take your mind off yourself.
Prayer can change the hearts of others.
Prayer can change mindsets.
Prayer can offer you hope.
Prayer can unite people.
There are many who need prayer: the government, the school systems, men and women in the military, loved ones, countries in unrest, your enemies, churches, the sick, the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the orphans, your community… the list goes on.
Let’s celebrate prayer today but remember prayer is never limited to just one day.
Let me leave you with this quote: “The enemy will try to limit your praying because he knows your praying will limit him.” (*The quote is not mine, the author is unknown.)
